Fat balls are a great source of fat for your garden birds. When considering feeding your local wildlife, we'd suggest also taking a look at Fat Blocks and Suet Pellets. Which you choose to feed will depend on what feeders you have available, your birds will love whichever you choose!

Suet fat balls are a great supplement to keep your wild birds energy levels up during the colder winter months. But they can be fed at other times of the year too for the same reason - to help them maintain their energy levels.
Depending on where you live, what suet you buy and where your feeders are located, buying suet in the warmer summer months is not usually worth it. In fact, many wild bird food companies actually stop selling suet during hotter days!
It comes down to one simple reason - the heat. Suet just melts into a mush on the hotter days of the year (think of how hot your car can get, then picture a delivery van!).
For these reasons we'd recommend avoiding feeding suet, or create a blend to reduce the amount you feed by combining suet pellets with a bird seed mix.
